Michael Riley Design shows a passion for strong design elements and bold yet playable synthetic greens. Intrigued from an early age by the role of topography and layout, Mike Riley leverages his experience working with Nicklaus Design and Robert Cupp. Acknowledging the impact of 35 years of hands-on design experience, Southwest Greens formalized a relationship to merge traditional design features with cutting-edge synthetic turf surfaces.

Graduating with a degree in Horticulture from Clemson University and a short stint playing professional golf, Mike was offered a game-changing chance to work for Nicklaus Design. As both a site coordinator and a design associate, he was fortunate to be work on Nicklaus golf courses in renowned golf locations including Japan, California, Hawaii, Colorado, and Tucson, AZ. He literally learned great golf course design and construction from the ground up with one of the modern masters of the game. One of the courses he worked on, the famous Kiele course in Kauai Lagoons, Hawaii, won Best New Resort Course by Golf Digest in 1989.
